Replacing the Steam Version with the Community Version

warning

This method only works for versions of the game that were manually installed (i.e. not via the launcher). If you are wanting to add the Elemental Fracture Launcher as a game on Steam, add a non-Steam game instead.

If you still have Spellbreak in your Steam library from before the shutdown, you can force it to launch the Community Version instead of the old live client. This lets you keep the authentic Steam launcher experience while actually playing the working Community Version.

Step 1: Download Required Files

Step 2: Locate Steam Install Folder

Once the Steam version is installed, browse to the local files. You should see:

  • EasyAntiCheat/
  • Engine/
  • g3/
  • installscript.vdf
  • Launch_Spellbreak.exe
  • version.txt

Step 3: Remove Unneeded Files

Delete the following items from the Steam install folder:

  • EasyAntiCheat/
  • installscript.vdf
  • version.txt

Step 4: Replace with Community Version Files

Now we’ll replace certain Steam files with the Community Version equivalents:

  1. Game Content
Navigate to g3\Content\Paks. Delete the .pak and .sig files and replace them with the ones from the Community Version.

  2. Launcher Executable
    Delete Launch_Spellbreak.exe.
Copy Spellbreak.exe from the Community Version into this folder, then rename it to Launch_Spellbreak.exe.

  3. Game Executable
In g3\Binaries\Win64\, delete the Steam version Spellbreak.exe.
Copy in g3-Win64-Test.exe from the Community Version and rename it to Spellbreak.exe.

  4. Engine Folder
Replace the entire Engine/ folder in the Steam install with the Community Version’s Engine/ folder.
If prompted to overwrite files, select Yes.

Step 5: Launch via Steam

If everything was replaced correctly, clicking Play in Steam will now launch the Community Version of Spellbreak instead of the dead live client.

Done!

You now have the Community Version running seamlessly through Steam, keeping the authentic launcher feel while still being able to play.
